Mending Invisible Wings: The Journey...
When a woman experiences the loss of her baby, she may find that she has no outlet for her loss. The stories are often left in silence – unspoken, unshared. The wounds are veiled, buried, and locked away. But while these wounds are not outwardly visible, the woman’s feelings of loss linger, insidious wounds that do not heal and bubble up to the surface occasionally.
Does a woman have a grief outlet for her pregnancy or birth wound? Does she have the opportunity to talk about it? Most likely, the answer is no. Pregnancy and birth loss wounds are hidden below the surface. They make others nervous. They are taboo, shunned, and not to be talked about. And yet, the need to share our experience is strong, even if the baby died.
It is essential for the mother to love her body, accept and incorporate her experiences, and to grieve – fully, gently – so that she may heal wholly. Certainly, this does not mean that in doing so, she will forget her Spirit Child or abandon those memories; in fact, it is just the opposite. Mending Invisible Wings gives her a place to express her deepest emotions and feelings, pages to capture her remembrances of her pregnancy and her baby, his brief life, the birth experience, and the moments they were together.
